The cast and creative team of the New York City Center Encores! production of the 1966 musical It's a Bird… It's a Plane …It's Superman toasted the show's acclaimed, seven-performance run with a closing night party in the mezzanine lobby on Sunday, March 24. With a score by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, and a book by David Newman and Robert Benton, the production was directed by John Rando (A Christmas Story), with choreography by Joshua Bergasse (Smash). Musical director Rob Berman led the Encores! orchestra.

Edward Watts (Scandalous) and Jenny Powers (Donnybrook) led the cast of the comic book-inspired musical, in which Superman (Watts) must save the town of Metropolis from the evil, ten-time Nobel Prize-losing physicist Dr. Abner Sedgwick (two-time Tony Award nominee David Pittu), while realizing the affection of attractive newspaper reporter Lois Lane (Powers). Also featured in the principal cast were Tony Award nominee Will Swenson (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as gossip columnist Max Mencken, Alli Mauzey (Wicked) as Max's assistant, Sydney, Adam Monley (Mamma Mia!) as scientist Jim Morgan, James Saito (Golden Child) as Father Ling, and Craig Henningsen, Suo Liu, Jason Ng, and Scott Weber as the Flying Lings.

The ensemble included Wendi Bergamini, Ward Billeisen, Sam Bolen, Stephen Carrasco, Hannah Florence, Sara Jean Ford, Miles Johnson, Max Kumangai, Samantha Massell, Skye Mattox, Kenita R. Miller, Michael Mindlin, Jessica Lea Patty, David Scott Purdy, Manuel Stark, Charlie Williams, Kirsten Wyatt, and Samantha Zack.

It's a Bird… It's a Plane… It's Superman opened on March 29, 1966 at Broadway's Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon) and ran for 129 performances. Directed by Harold Prince, the original production starred Bob Holiday as Superman, Patricia Marand as Lois Lane, Jack Cassidy as Max Mencken, and Linda Lavin as Sydney. The Strouse-Adams score includes the songs "You've Got Possibilities," "You've Got What I Need," and "I'm Not Finished Yet."
