Maria Striar, Producing Artistic Director of the four-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb, has announced plans for its 18th Summerworks season. From May 24-June 29, Manhattan's 90-seat theater, the Wild Project, will house three new plays featuring some of New York's best Broadway and off-Broadway talent. Among the actors set to perform in Summerworks 2013 plays are Broadway veteran Bill Buell (Inherit the Wind), Drama Desk Award winner Heidi Schreck (Circle Mirror Transformation), Drama Desk Award nominee Jeanine Serralles (Maple and Vine), Crystal Finn (Luther), and Rebecca Henderson (The Whale). Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Featuring the work of new playwrights, the three new plays Clubbed Thumb plans to produce this summer are Baby Screams Miracle by Clare Barron (directed by Portia Krieger); Phoebe In Winter by Jen Silverman (directed by Mike Donahue); and La Brea by Gregory S. Moss (directed by Adam Greenfield).
Since its founding in 1996, Clubbed Thumb has been dedicated to developing funny and provocative new plays by living American writers. Winning four Obie Awards, the company has given New York premieres to some of today's great playwrights including Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl (In the Next Room), Obie winner Gina Gionfriddo (Rapture, Blister, Burn), and Obie Award winner Adam Bock (The Thugs).
