After sharing the 54 Below stage with stars like Santa Claus and Jeremy Jordan, you would think rock-and-roll/musical-theater writer Joe Iconis' performances had reached their peak of star power. Not so.
Iconis will be returning to 54 Below for four performances of Joe Iconis & Family starring some of Broadway's (and now television's) biggest stars, where he promises "an evening where searing character studies meet drunken backroom sing-alongs." The concert, produced by Jennifer Ashley Tepper, is described as a "love letter" to musical theater and plans to bring a rock-and-roll twist to traditional Broadway music.
Featured performers include Tony Award nominee and star of NBC's The New Normal Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon), who will appear in the April 15 performance only, and Broadway veteran/Smash regular Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family). Nick Blaemire of Broadway's Godspell is also set to appear at the April 26 performance. Also planning to perform are Liz Lark Brown (The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks), Katrina Rose Dideriksen (Bloodsong of Love), Seth Eliser , Molly Hager (Fat Camp), Dennis Michael Keefe, MK Lawson (Bloodsong of Love), Eric William Morris (Mamma Mia!), Jeremy Morse (The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks) (April 15 and April 20 only), Rob Rokicki, Mike Rosengarten, Lance Rubin (Bloodsong of Love), Jared Weiss, Jason SweetTooth Williams (Bloodsong of Love). Additional performers are still yet to be announced.
Iconis is known for writing the Drama Desk Award-nominated Bloodsong of Love, The Black Suits, ReWrite, and The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks, as well as the theatrical concert Things to Ruin. However, he recently made a splash in the Hollywood scene writing songs for NBC's Smash, including the iTunes top-100 song, "Broadway, Here I Come!"
