Ever heard of the musical Georgy? How about Rockabye Hamlet? It's not your fault if you haven't; audiences were only given a handful of opportunities to see them the first time around. But thanks to producers of the series If It Only Even Runs A Minute, Jennifer Ashley Tepper and Kevin Michael Murphy, these musicals will have a second chance to receive some long overdue recognition.
The series' 11th edition will be held on April 22 at Le Poisson Rouge, with Caleb Hoyer lending his musical direction to the evening. The show will feature songs and behind-the-scenes stories from lesser-known musicals such as Georgy, Greenwich Village USA, Haarlem Nocturne, Happily Ever After, Rockabye Hamlet, The Scottsboro Boys, Soon, Starting Here Starting Now, The Thing About Men, and more still to be announced.
Several of the obscure musicals' original cast members and writers will perform, as well as some of today's biggest Broadway stars. The concert's roster includes: George Lee Andrews (Evita, The Phantom of the Opera), Bertilla Baker (Titanic, Asylum), Marlene Danielle (Cats, West Side Story), André DeShields (The Wiz, The Full Monty), Brandon Victor Dixon (Motown, The Scottsboro Boys), Jake Epstein (American Idiot, Spider-Man), Scott Fagan (writer of Soon), Danielle Gimbal (Pool Boy, The Fix), Leah Hocking (Billy Elliot, All Shook Up), Christopher Ketner (The Sound of Music), Kelvin Moon Loh (American Idiot, Here Lies Love), Brynn O'Malley (Annie, Sunday in the Park with George), Michon Peacock (Chicago, Georgy), Monet Julia Sabel (6 The Musical), Amanda Michelle Savan (Fancy Nancy, Cruel Shoes), Ryan Speakman (Camelot, Oliver), Larry Spivack (Metamorphosis, Triumph of Love), Taylor Trensch (Matilda, Bare), Freida Williams (Starmites, Jesus Christ Superstar), and Savannah Wise ("Smash," Rock of Ages). Additional performers are still yet to be announced.
