La Jolla Playhouse has announced the final production of its 2013-2014 season, the world premiere of The Who & The What by Ayad Akhtar (Disgraced). The Who & The What, with direction by Kimberly Senior, will play February 11-March 9 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre.

The new play focuses on Zarina, a brilliant young woman raised in a conservative Muslim family in Atlanta. She routinely clashes with her traditional father and sister, and her one outlet — her recently completed book about women and Islam — threatens to tear her family apart for good.

Ayad Akhtar is a playwright and screenwriter as well as the author of the book American Dervish. His play Disgraced, which ran at Lincoln Center Theater in 2012, won the Jeff Equity Award for Best New Play in 2012.
