The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess to Launch U.S. Tour in Fall of 2013

A national tour of the current Broadway revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess will launch in the fall of 2013. Casting and a complete schedule will be announced at a later date.

Directed by Diane Paulus and featuring choreography by Ronald K. Brown, the show tells the classic story (by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward) about the beautiful Bess, who’s struggling to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her: the crippled but courageous Porgy. This revival features a reworking by director Diane Paulus, playwright Suzan-Lori Parks, and composer Diedre L. Murray.

The creative team also includes choreographer Ronald K. Brown, set designer Riccardo Hernandez, costume designer ESosa, lighting designer Christopher Akerlind and sound designer Acme Sound Partners.

The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess plays on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and features a company which includes Audra McDonald (Bess), Norm Lewis (Porgy), David Alan Grier (Sporting Life), Phillip Boykin (Crown), Nikki Renée Daniels (Clara), Joshua Henry (Jake), Christopher Innvar (Detective) , Bryonha Marie Parham (Serena) and NaTasha Yvette Williams (Mariah).
