NBC Orders Second Season of Smash

NBC has ordered a second season of its musical drama Smash. No other details have been announced.

The series, which looks behind the scenes of the making of a Broadway musical, is co-created and written by playwright Theresa Rebeck and has original songs by Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. It currently airs on Monday nights at 10pm.


The cast features Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Anjelica Huston, Megan Hilty, Katherine McPhee, Jaime Cepero, Jack Davenport, Raza Jaffrey, and Brian d’Arcy James. Guest stars for the first season include Nick Jonas, Bernadette Peters, Will Chase, Thorsten Kaye, Uma Thurman, Grace Gummer, and Michael Cristofer.

According to reports, Rebeck will step down as showrunner next season, overseeing the show on a daily basis, but may continue to write scripts.
