The second preview performance of the Broadway revival of Evita, at the Marquis Theatre, has been canceled for tonight, March 13.

The cancellation is due to the theater’s deluge system going off. The system is in place to extinguish fires, although a press statement reports that there was no fire at the theater. Clean up is currently underway, and performances are expected to resume with the Wednesday, March 14 matinee performance at 2pm.

Evita tells the story of Argentina’s Eva Peron, who used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. She won international acclaim and adoration from her own people as a champion of the poor, while glamour, power and greed made her the world’s first major political celebrity.

Michael Grandage directs the production, which stars Ricky Martin as Che, Elena Roger as Eva, and Michael Cerveris as Juan Perón. The cast also features Max Von Essen as Magaldi, Rachel Potter as Mistress, and Christina DeCicco, who is the alternate/standby for Eva Peron.

Patrons with tickets to tonight’s preview performance should return to point-of-purchase for refund or exchange.
