Lady Gaga, Tony Kushner, Ricky Martin Among Recipients of GLAAD Awards at NYC Ceremony

The awards in the majority of categories were presented at the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards New York City ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Times Square, on Saturday, March 24. The event was hosted by Glee‘s Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera.

In theater categories, Tony Kushner’s The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures won for Outstanding New York Theatre: Broadway & Off Broadway; the musical Southern Comfort with book and lyrics by Dan Collins, music by Julianne Wick Davis won for Outstanding New York Theatre: Off-Off Broadway; and No Word in Guyanese for Me, by Wendy Graf, won for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre.

Lady Gaga won as Outstanding Music Artist for Born This Way, while Ricky Martin — currently starring on Broadway in Evita — won as Spanish-Language Outstanding Music Artist for Música + Alma + Sexo . Among the other award winners was ABC’s Dancing with the Stars as Outstanding Reality Program.

As previously reported, producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan are the recipients of the Vito Russo Award, which was presented to them by Broadway veterans Bernadette Peters and John Stamos. Meron and Zadan are currently represented on television by NBC’s Smash and Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva and on Broadway by the revival of How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
