Broadway’s Newsies Extends Through August 19

The Broadway production of Disney’s new musical Newsies, playing at the Nederlander Theatre, has extended. Directed by Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, the show will now play through August 19.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.

The company features Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, and Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, as well as Lewis Grosso and Matthew Schechter who alternate in the role of Les.

The ensemble is comprised of Aaron J. Albano, Mark Aldrich, Tommy Bracco, John E. Brady, Ryan Breslin, Kevin Carolan, Caitlyn Caughell, Kyle Coffman, Mike Faist, Michael Fatica, Julie Foldesi, Garett Hawe, Thayne Jasperson, Evan Kasprzak, Jess LeProtto, Stuart Marland, Andy Richardson, Jack Scott, Ryan Steele, Brendon Stimson, Nick Sullivan, Ephraim Sykes, Laurie Veldheer, Alex Wong and Stuart Zagnit.

The creative team includes scenic designer Tobin Ost, costume designer Jess Goldstein, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, projections designer Sven Ortel, and sound designer Ken Travis.
