2012 Tribeca Film Festival Announces Selections

Selections have been announced for the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, to be held in various New York City venues, April 18-29.


A highlight of the festival will be the documentary Joe Papp in Five Acts, about the founder of the Public Theatre, which is directed by Tracie Holder and Karen Thorsen. The movie, which has been co-produced with PBSAmerican Masters, features interviews with Meryl Streep, Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, Kevin Kline, James Earl Jones, and more.


The Festival will also include screenings of the documentaries Queen: Days Of Our Lives, about the famed rock group, and The Zen of Bennett, which focuses on Grammy Award winner Tony Bennett and the making of his Duets II album.


Other films that will be screened include Travis Fine’s Any Day Now starring Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt as a gay couple who take in a handicapped teenager; Donald Rice’s Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, starring Felicity Jones and Elizabeth McGovern; Malgoska Szumowskqa’s Elles, starring Juliette Binoche; Jay Gammell’s Free Samples, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Ritter, and Jess Weixler; Lee Kirk’s The Giant Mechanical Man, starring Chris Messina, Jenna Fischer, and Topher Grace; Tanya Wexler’s Hysteria, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy; Daryl Wein’s Lola Versus, starring Hamish Linklater and Zoe-Lister Jones; Chadd Harbold’s Revenge for Jolly, starring Oscar Issac; Brian Dannelly’s Struck By Lighting, starring Chris Colfer and Allison Janney; Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz, starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen; and Terry George’s Whole Lotta Sole, starring Brendan Fraser.
