Writer and Playwright Al Morgan Has Died

Playwright and novelist Al Morgan has died, according to a report in The New York Times. He was 91.

Morgan’s theater credits include two shows on Broadway. In 1958, he wrote the book for the musical Oh, Captain, which starred Tony Randall. And, in 1965, his play Minor Miracle had a brief Broadway run.

He is probably best known for writing The Great Man, a novel based on his years working in radio that later was adapted into a film of the same name. Among his other novels are Cast of Characters, One Star General, and The Whole World Is Watching.

In addition, Morgan won an Emmy Award for his work as producer of The Today Show in 1968.
