Rinde Eckert, Melvin Van Peebles, et al. Set for The Kitchen’s Spring 2011 Season

The Kitchen has announced programming for its Spring 2011 season.

Rinde Eckert and Melvin Van Peebles will be among the featured performers in 21C Liederabend op. 2 (April 7-9), a multi-media festival of boundary-pushing, post-classical song. The festival will include world-premieres by Daniel Felsenfeld, Peter Golub, David T. Little, Matt Marks, Missy Mazzoli, Paola Prestini and a commissioned song-cycle by Du Yun. Additional performers will include Timo Andres, Lisa Bielawa, Theo Bleckmann, Tony Boutte, Lori Cotler, Helga Davis, Corey Dargel, Kate Geissinger, Abigail Fischer, Mellissa Hughes, Gabriel Kahane, Sofia Rei Koutsovitis, John Buffalo Mailer, Glen Velez, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond and special guest ensembles: the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME).

Performance highlights will also include musician and choreographer Steven Reker’s People Get Ready, featuring performers Megan Byrne, Jessica Cook, Luke Fasano, Jen Goma, Reker and James Rickman (March 31-April 2); video and performance artist Michael Paul Britto’s This Little Word of Mine and Kenya (Robinson)’s YOURMAMADONTWEARNODRAWS (April 29-30); Emily Roysdon’s A Gay Bar Called Everywhere (With Costumes and No Practice) (May 6-7); and OBIE Award-winning performance duo PearlDamour’s collaboration with New Orleans-based visual artist Shawn Hall, How to Build a Forest (June 17-26).

The Kitchen will hold its 40th Anniversary Gala Benefit, honoring Philip Glass, on May 4.
