Sutton Foster, Joel Grey, and Kathleen Marshall participated in a TimesTalks event entitled Cole Porter’s Classic, moderated by Anthony Tommasini, on Monday, March 21. In addition to discussing Porter’s musical Anything Goes, now in previews at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, Tony Award winners Foster and Grey performed selections from the production, which Marshall has directed.

Anything Goes features a score by Cole Porter, original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, and a new book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman. In the musical, the S.S. American heads out to sea, and etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love.

Foster and Grey head the cast as, respectively, Reno Sweeney and Moonface Martin. The company also features Colin Donnell as Billy Crocker, Adam Godley as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, Laura Osnes as Hope Harcourt, Jessica Stone as Erma, Walter Charles as Captain, Robert Creighton as Purser, Andrew Cao as Luke, Raymond J. Lee as John, John McMartin as Elisha Whitney, and Jessica Walter as Evangeline Harcourt.

In related news, the cast of the show will perform live on ABC’s Good Morning America, on Friday, March 25. The segment will air between 8am and 9pm EST.
