Christopher Sieber, Annie Golden, Harvey Evans, David Garrison and Richard H. Blake were among the presenters who joined host Bryan Batt and auctioneer Lorna Kelly for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’
14th Annual Broadway Bears, held Sunday March 6 at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill.
Over 40 bears were auctioned off, raising over $90,000 for the charity. The evening’s top earner, at $14,000, was a Julie Andrews-signed Eliza Doolittle bear, designed by Richard St. Clair from Cecil Beaton’s costume for the original 1956 production of My Fair Lady.
Other top earners included a Bernadette Peters and Stephen Sondheim autographed Into the Woods bear, designed by Ariel Pellman, which raised $6,500, Karl Ruckdeschel’s Rock of Ages bear, signed by Constantine Maroulis, which raised $6,000 and Susan Bolt’s Link Larkin/Hairspray bear, autographed by Matthew Morrison, which raised $5,500 for the charity.
Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark lead Reeve Carney was also on hand to present that show’s bear, and even did a pratfall on stage to help drive up the price. The initial selling of the bear, designed by Katie Falk with assistance from Gene Mignola and Parsons-Meares Ltd., was delayed three times by Broadway Cares for what they called “technical difficulties.” It eventually rounded out the top 5, earning $5,250.
