Kwame Kwei-Armah has been named artistic director of CENTERSTAGE in Baltimore. He replaces Irene Lewis, who, as previously announced, will become the theater’s Artistic Director Emeritus on July 1.

Kwei-Armah’s plays include Elmina’s Kitchen and Let There Be Love, both of which have been produced at the theater. In addition, he staged Things of Dry Hours for the company. In England, he serves on the board of The National Theatre and The Tricycle Theatre, and most recently served as Artistic Director for the World Arts Festival in Senegal.
