Broadway Veteran John Scoullar Has Died

John Scoullar, a composer, lyricist, playwright and performer, died on Friday, March 25, following a battle with skin cancer. He was 61.

Scoullar made his Broadway debut working on the 1974 production of Over, Here, and also appeared on Broadway in the 1978 musical comedy King of Hearts.

As a writer/composer, Scoullar is the co-author (with Rick Cummins) of a musical adaptation of Antoine St. Exupery’s The Little Prince which will play The New Victory Theater in October 2011. Among his other author credits are Old Fashion Bargain Days (with Joseph Kavanagh), Canticle at Hartman Conservatory Theatre, the musical The Legend of Finn McCool, and Hello, Dears, in which he also starred in at the Players Theatre.

He is survived by his son Nick, daughter-in-law Faryl, and his partner Bradshaw Smith. Donations can be made in his name to his favorite charity Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS
