Casting has been announced for Oren Safdie’s The Bilbao Effect, to run May 12 – June 6 at the Center for Architecture. Brendan Hughes will direct the play.

The Bilbao Effect, the second in a trilogy that began with Safdie’s Private Jokes, Public Places, focuses on a world famous architect who faces censure by the American Institute of Architects, following accusations that his urban redevelopment project for Staten Island has led to a woman’s suicide. The play’s title refers to a term popularized after Frank Gehry built the Guggenheim Museum in Spain, transforming the poor industrial port city of Bilbao into a must-see tourist destination.

The company will feature John Bolton, Anthony Giaimo, M.J. Kang, Joris Stuyck, Jill Tanner, Joel Van Liew, and Dan Barbaro.

The creative team includes Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams (scenic design), Cat Tate Starmer (lighting design), Chloe Chapin (costume design) and Ben Arons (sound design).
