Broadway Production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch Planned for Late 2010

A Broadway production of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch is in development, according to a report in the New York Post. The musical is aiming to open sometime this fall, to be directed by Peter Askin and with Mitchell once again playing the title role. No other information is being confirmed at this time.

With a book by Mitchell and music and lyrics by Trask, the show focuses on a transgendered rock singer from East Germany. The show premiered Off-Broadway in 1998 at the Jane Street Theatre and received Obie and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The show was later adapted into a movie of the same name, starring Mitchell and Michael Pitt.
