Angela Lansbury, Catherine Zeta-Jones to Join New York City Center’s Sondheim Birthday Gala

Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones have joined the line-up for New York City Center‘s celebration of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Stephen Sondheim on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The gala celebration on April 26 will be directed by John Doyle, with Rob Berman as musical director.

Previously announced performers include Tom Aldredge, Len Cariou, Michael Cerveris, Claybourne Elder, Raúl Esparza, Sutton Foster, Victor Garber, Alexander Gemignani, Joanna Gleason, Alexander Hanson, Mark Jacoby, Nathan Lane, Debra Monk, Donna Murphy, Michele Pawk, Bernadette Peters, Jim Walton, B.D. Wong, and Chip Zien.

The gala will begin at 6pm with cocktails at City Center, followed by the show at 7pm, highlighted by numbers from shows for which Sondheim has written both music and lyrics. The evening will end with a post-performance dinner at The Plaza Hotel. Proceeds from the benefit will help fund New York City Center’s ongoing activities and also support Young Playwrights Inc.
