Angela Bassett Joins Ryan Reynolds, Tim Robbins, Peter Sarsgaard in Green Lantern Movie

Stage and screen star Angela Bassett will play Amanda Waller in the forthcoming Green Lantern film, according to a report in Variety. She joins previously announced cast members Ryan Reynolds as the title character, Peter Sarsgaard as villain Hector Hammond, Tim Robbins as Hammond’s father, and Blake Lively as the hero’s love interest, Carol Ferris.

Martin Campbell is directing the film, which is based on the DC Comics superhero. Filming has begun in New Orleans. The script is by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, with rewrites by Michael Goldenberg.

Bassett’s stage credits include the original Broadway production of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, the Public Theater production of Macbeth opposite Alec Baldwin, and the Pasadena Playhouse production of Wilson’s Fences.
