Martha Clarke’s acclaimed 1984 dance-theater piece Garden of Earthly Delights, which had announced an extension of its run at the Minetta Lane Theatre through May 31, will now close on April 5. According to a press statement, the revised closing date is “due to the downturn in the economy.”

In the work, Clarke brings Hieronymus Bosch’s provocative painting to life — exploring heaven, hell, and the beauty and sins in between. The original production was honored with a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and an Obie Award for Richard Peaslee’s original score. An international tour is being planned for the 2009/2010 season.

The show features Sophie Bortolussi, Frances Chiaverini, Daniel Clifton, Elena Demyanenko, General McArthur Hambrick, Whitney V. Hunter, Gabby Malone, Matt Rivera, Andrew Robinson, Jenny Sandler, Isadora Wolfe; with musicians Wayne Hankin (winds), Egil Rostad (cello), and Arthur Solari (music director, percussion). The production has costumes by Jane Greenwood and lighting by Christopher Akerlind.
