The 39 Steps, playing the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre through March 29, will transfer to the Cort Theatre. Directed by Maria Aitken and starring the original Broadway cast, the show will resume performances April 29, with a new opening night of May 8.

The play is a comedic take on Hitchcock’s 1935 classic thriller of the same name (inspired by John Buchan’s 1915 novel) about a man who is forced by a mysterious woman’s death into a cross-country race for his life. The play is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by Buchan. The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

The cast includes Arnie Burton, Charles Edwards, Jennifer Ferrin, and Cliff Saunders. The creative team includes Peter McKintosh (sets and costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Mic Pool (sound).

Edwards, who plays dashing hero Richard Hannay, first played the role in the show’s London production. His film credits include An Ideal Husband, Mansfield Park, Batman Begins, and the forthcoming The All Together. Ferrin, who plays Pamela and Margaret, is best known for her role as Jennifer Munson on CBS’s As The World Turns.

Burton and Saunders play the Clowns. Burton’s stage credits include The Jew of Malta, The Merchant of Venice, and The Last Sunday in June. Saunders has starred on stage in The Lord of the Rings, Habeas Corpus, and Beauty and the Beast; his film and TV credits include Chicago, Monk, and the Eloise TV movies.
