Ooh, Baby!

TheaterMania joins James Snyder, Elizabeth Stanley, Harriet Harris, Alli Mauzey, and John Waters for a sneak peek at the new Broadway musical Cry-Baby.

Will lightning strike twice for John Waters? The idiosyncratic director’s film Hairspray was transformed into one of Broadway’s hottest (and still-running) musicals, so hopes are obviously high for Cry-Baby, the new musical based on Waters’ 1990 film of the same name, which begins previews at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre on March 15 in advance of an official opening on April 24. Waters himself hosted the show’s recent meet-and-greet, guiding the invited audience through four lively musical numbers, directed by Mark Brokaw and choreographed by Rob Ashford. Afterwards, TheaterMania spoke with James Snyder, who plays the title role, and fellow cast members Elizabeth Stanley, Alli Mauzey, and Tony Award winner Harriet Harris, about their involvement in this unusual project.
