Michael Cumpsty, Elizabeth Marvel, Kate Mulgrew, and Michael Stuhlbarg will star in Classic Stage Company’s First Look Festival readings of The Oresteia, to be presented on Mondays, March 17, 24, and 31. All three plays will be presented in a new translation by Anne Carson.

Aeschuylus’ Agammemnon, to be directed by Cumpsty will play on the 17th, followed on the 24th by Sophocles’ Electra, directed by Brian Kulick, and on the 31st by Euripides’ Orestes, directed by Paul Lazar and Annie B. Parson.

Cumpsty has previously appeared in CSC’s productions of Hamlet, Richard II and Richard III, and is currently starring in the Roundabout Theatre’s revival of Sunday in the Park with George. Marvel, a multiple Obie Award winner, will soon star in Manhattan Theatre Club’s Broadway production of Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls. Mulgrew’s recent New York stage credits include Iphigenia 2.0 and Our Leading Lady. Stuhlbarg won a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award nomination for The Pillowman, and will play the title role in this summer’s Shakespeare in the Park production of Hamlet.
