Beebo Brinker Chronicles and BASH’d: A Gay Rock Opera were named Outstanding Broadway/Off-Broadway Play and Outstanding Off-Off Broadway Play, respectively, at the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Award ceremonies, held in New York on Monday, March 17 at the Marriott Marquis.

Beebo, an adaptation of 1950s pulp novels by Kate Moira Ryan and Linda Chapman, is currently playing a commercial run at 37 Arts after a limited run last fall at the 4th Street Theatre. BASH’d, written by Chris Craddock, Nathan Cuckow, and Aaron Macri, was seen at last summer’s Fringe Festival and will reportedly return shortly for a commercial run.

Other winners last night included singer Rufus Wainwright, the daytime TV drama As The World Turns, primetime series Boston Legal, 20/20, and 60 Minutes, and the films Stardust, The Bubble, and For The Bible Tells Me So.

Future award ceremonies will take place in South Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 12; in Los Angeles on April 26 at the Kodak Theatre; and in San Francisco on May 10 at the San Francisco Marriott. Honorees will include Janet Jackson, Wainwright, and Herb Ritts in Los Angeles; Ilene Chaiken and David Mixner in San Francisco; and Wilson Cruz in South Florida. Special Recognition awards will also be the magazine The Intelligence Report in South Florida, and the groundbreaking theater troupe, Theater Rhinoceros, in San Francisco.
