Asolo Repertory Announces 2008-2009 Season

The Asolo Repertory Theatre’s 2008-2009 season will be presented on three stages: the Mertz and the Cook Theatres in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, and the Historic Asolo Theater at the Ringling Museum.

As an extension of the Access to the Arts program, Asolo Rep will present a production specifically tailored to upper elementary and middle school audiences. This coming year, The Giver, a play by Eric Coble (October 21 – November 8) will run at the Historic Asolo Theater.

The regular season will open with the Tony and Drama Desk award winning musical Barnum (November 15-December 20), a fusion of musical theatre and circus. Adapted by playwright Steve Murray, This Wonderful Life (December 5-December 28) will follow with a solo rendition of the American film classic. Next up is The Imaginary Invalid (January 2-March 1), a new adaptation of Moliere’s classic satire on the medical profession.

The second play in the Rep Season, to run January 9-April 16, will be announced at a later date, while Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale (January 23-May 16) will fill the Mertz. Visiting Mr. Green (January 30-February 21) by Jeff Baron will play at the Asolo. Murderers by Jeffrey Hatcher (March 13-May 23) will bring some murderous comedy to the Mertz, followed by George Bernard Shaw’s The Devil’s Disciple (March 20-May 24). The world premiere of Perfect Mendacity by Jason Wells (May 15-June 14) will grace the Cook Theatre with spies, lies and polygraphs, while Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins (June 5-June 28) by Stephen Temperley will play the Mertz.
