Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, Texas has announced the line-up for its 40th Anniversary season. First up is the U.S premiere of the musical Whistle Down the Wind (September 1-23), featuring a score by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman. Based on the popular film, the show tells the story of a 15-year-old Southern girl who tries to protect a stranger who claims to be Jesus Christ.

Next up, from October 9-21, is the Tony Award-winning musical Dreamgirls, which tells the rags-to-riches story of a female singing group. The season continues with A Wonderful Life (December 1-23), the musical version of the beloved film It’s A Wonderful Life by Sheldon Harnick and the late Joe Raposo.

Those shows are followed by Jerry Herman’s classic Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! (February 26-March 9), and two current Broadway hits, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (March 25-April 6) and The Drowsy Chaperone (May 20-June 1).
