Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me CD Set for April 10 Release

Ghostlight Records will release the original cast recording of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me on April 10. The recording will feature Short, Brooks Ashmankas, Mary Birdsong, Capathia Jenkins, and Donna Vivino (who took over from original cast member Nicole Parker during the run). The show ran for 165 performances before closing on January 7.

Fame Becomes Me was conceived by Short and Scott Witman, who also directed, with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Wittman, book by Short and Daniel Goldfarb, and additional material by Alan Zweibel. The musical was an improbable and decidedly non-factual version of Short’s life story.

The CD will contain 27 tracks, including “The Salesman That Got Away,” “Step Brother to Jesus,” “Twelve Step Pappy,” and the aptly-named “A Big Black Lady Stops the Show,” which earned nightly ovations for Jenkins.
