Daniel Radcliffe, the 17-year-old British actor who is currently starring as troubled teen Alan Strang in the London revival of Equus, has signed on to film the next two installments in the Harry Potter film franchise, according to published reports. Radcliffe has starred in the previous five films in the series, based on the best-selling novels by J.K. Rowling.

As a result, any Broadway transfer of the play with Radcliffe would be delayed until sometime in 2008, after the filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The seventh and final book in the series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published in July. No definite plans for a film version have been announced.

Equus, directed by Thea Sharrock, co-stars Tony Award winner Richard Griffiths. The play concerns a psychiatrist (Griffiths) who attempts to treat a young stableboy (Radcliffe) who has inexplicably blinded six horses. Radcliffe has caused headlines for appearing fully nude in the play.

TheaterMania will post a review of the production shortly.
