Culture Project to Present New Version of Life Is a Dream

The Culture Project will present three performances of a new version of Calderon de la Barca’s classic Spanish play Life Is a Dream (La Vida es Sueno), in a bilingual adaptation by Navarro Amador. The performances on Thursday, March 29 at 3pm and Friday, March 30 at 10pm will be free; the show on Saturday, March 31 at 3pm will be a gala benefit for Amnesty International.

The production will be directed by Cecil McKinnon and star Allyn Burrows, James Gale, Hall Hunsinger, Ephraim Lopez, Puy Navarro, and Francisco Reyes. The creative team includes Barbara Allen (choreography), Ed Ware (original music), Moza Saracho and Courtney McLain (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), Aural Fixation (sound), and Nicholas Katsasounis (video).

Originally published in the 1630s, the play concerns the son of a Polish king who was imprisoned at birth because it was prophesied that he would bring disaster to the country.
When he is finally released as an adult, he becomes extremely violent — and is then told that everything was a dream. This new version is set in the U.S. and encompasses the plight of the Latin American emigrant.

Tickets to the free readings may be reserved by emailing boxoffice@cultureproject.org.
