On April 3, Ghostlight Records will release the world premiere recording of Kirsten Childs’ critically acclaimed musical, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, which was presented by Playwrights Horizons in 2000.

The show is a coming-of-age musical memoir about a young African-American woman in a white world. The Ghostlight recording features original cast members LaChanze (in the central role of Viveca “Bubbly” Stanton), Jerry Dixon, Felicia Finley, Darius de Haas, Jonathan Dokuchitz, Cheryl Alexander, Duane Boutte, Robert Jason Jackson, Natalie Venetia Belcon, and Angel Desai; joining them for the recording are Adriane Lenox and Shayna Steele.

Childs’ other writing credits include Miracle Brothers, which premiered at the Vineyard Theatre; a concert version of Rumpelstiltskin; and an adaptation of the Harold Arlen/Truman Capote musical House of Flowers for the City Center Encores! series. As a performer, she appeared with Chita Rivera in Chicago and performed on Broadway in Dancin’, Jerry’s Girls, and Sweet Charity.
