Jayne Atkinson, Asher Book, Elizabeth Moss, Jason Ritter, Henry Winkler, and Missy Yager will star in L.A. Theatre Works’ The Play’s the Thing presentation of Rinne Groff’s The Ruby Sunrise at the Skirball Cultural Center, March 14-18. The production, to be taped for future radio broadcast, will be directed by Brendon Fox.

Previously seen at Trinity Rep in Providence, Rhode Island and the Public Theater in New York City, The Ruby Sunrise is loosely inspired by the life of Philo T. Farnsworth, the Indiana farm boy who invented television. In the show’s first act, we meet Ruby, a teenage tomboy desperate to construct the first television. In the second act, set in the 1950s, Ruby’s daughter faces battles of will and faith as she struggles to get her mother’s story told on television.
