The Purple-ing of America: The Color Purple Will Tour Nationally

The producers of The Color Purple have announced that the Broadway musical will kick off a national tour with an engagement at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre from April 17 through November 2007. The show will then travel to Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, and other cities.

The creative team of the touring production will be the same as that of the Broadway show: Gary Griffin (director), John Lee Beatty (set design), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lighting), and Jon Weston (sound design). Casting will be announced at a later date.

The musical features a libretto by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, and choreography by Donald Byrd. It opened at the Broadway Theatre on December 1, 2005.
