LuPone, McAnuff, Seldes to Receive Drama League Awards

Tony Award winners Patti LuPone, Des McAnuff, and Marian Seldes will all be honored at the 72nd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, to be held on Friday, May 5 at the Marriot Marquis. Alan Cumming will host the event.

LuPone will receive the group’s Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award, which will be presented by Stephen Sondheim. She is currently starring in the Broadway revival of his musical Sweeney Todd. McAnuff will receive the group’s Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing, which will be presented by playwright Aaron Sorkin.
McAnuff is currently represented on Broadway by Jersey Boys and will soon helm the La Jolla Playhouse’s new musical Zhivago. Seldes will be honored with the Unique Contribution to the Theater Award, which will be presented by playwright Terrence McNally. She most recently appeared Off-Broadway in his play Dedication, or the Stuff of Dreams and will appear next season at Primary Stages in his new play Deuce.

During the ceremony, awards will also be given for Distinguished Production of a Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play and Distinguished Revival of a Musical. In addition, many of the season’s top performers will be honored, with one actor to receive the Distinguished Performer Award.
