Kaye Ballard and Paul Hecht will star in the upcoming Bay Street Theatre production of Ronald Harwood’s Quartet, May 23-June 4. The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Jack Hofsiss; additional cast members will be named at a later date.

The play is set in a home for retired opera singers, where the residents are preparing to celebrate the birthday of the great composer Giuseppe Verdi. Three former colleagues are at odds over the arrival of the newest resident, a diva with whom they once performed. Ballard and Hecht previously appeared in a 2002 production of the play.

Ballard starred on Broadway in such shows as The Golden Apple, Carnival, and The Pirates of Penzance, and is well known for her TV series The Mothers-in-Law. Hecht received a Tony Award nomination for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead; his other Broadway credits include 1776, The Rothschilds, Noises Off, and The Invention of Love.
