Helen Carey to Star in Shakespeare Theatre’s The Persians

Tony Award nominee Helen Carey will star in the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s production of Aeschlyus’ The Persians, April 4- May 21. The show, which will feature a new adaptation by playwright/actress Ellen McLaughlin, will be directed by Ethan McSweeny.

The show’s cast will also include Erin Gann, Scott Parkinson, Ted van Greithuysen, Emery Battis, Ed Dixon, Floyd King, John Livingston Rolle, David Sabin, John Seidman, Michael Shelle, David Emerson Toney, Dacyl Acevedo, Jordan Coughtry, Blake Ellis, Stephen Graybill, Nicholas Urda, and Ryan Young, as well as cellist Caroline Kang and percussionists Scott Robinson and Orlando Cotto.

The show’s creative team will include James Noone (set design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design), Martin DesJardins (sound design), Michael Clark (projection design), Michael Roth (composer/musical director), and Marcela Lorca (choreographer). McLaughlin is best known for her work in Angels in America; her plays include Helen. McSweeny directed the Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man.

Carey, who will play Atossa, received a Tony nomination for London Assurance, and was also seen on Broadway in The House of Atreus. Her previous Shakespeare Theatre Company appearances include Anthony and Cleopatra, Henry VI, Julius Caesar, and As You Like It.
