Flea, HERE, Soho Rep, et al. Receive LMDC Grants

The Flea Theater and the HERE Arts Center have each received $500,000 in federal grants from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation as part of an initiative to revive cultural activity in downtown Manhattan.

In all, 63 arts organizations were granted a total of $27.4 million. Among the recipients are the Henry Street Settlement, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Bang on a Can, the New York Classical Theater, and Soho Rep. The money will be used by the various organizations for construction, renovation, and programming; the LMDC expects that the grants will help the recipients raise more than $400 million.
