A Chorus Line to Open at Schoenfeld on October 5

The Broadway revival of A Chorus Line will begin performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on September 18, 2006, with the official opening scheduled for October 5.

Directed by Bob Avian, co-choreographer of the original 1975 production, the revival will first play San Francisco’s Curran Theatre from July 23 through September 2. As previously reported, Broadway veterans Charlotte d’Amboise and Michael Berresse will respectively play Cassie and Zak. No other casting has been announced.

A Chorus Line was originally conceived, directed, and choreographed by the late Michael Bennett. Based on the life stories of a number of Broadway dancers, the show has a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch (who will provide new orchestrations for the revival), and lyrics by Edward Kleban. It won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The original production closed on April 28, 1990, having played 6,137 performances.
