Orbach died on December 28 at age 69. According to the actor's wife, Elaine, the March 24 gathering will be "a loving celebration of Jerry's life, a salute to the many wonderful shows he did, and a testament to the incredible joy he brought to his family, friends, colleagues, and fans throughout his career. We chose the Richard Rodgers Theatre because Jerry and I met there in 1976 when we both appeared in Chicago. That theatre always had a special place in our hearts."
Although Orbach was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Lennie Brisco on the long-running NBC TV series Law & Order, he originated roles in many major Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including The Fantasticks, Promises, Promises, and 42nd Street.
