The Signature Theatre Company has announced the shows that will make up its 2004-2005 season, which is dedicated to the works of playwright Paula Vogel.

Scheduled for production are the New York premiere of The Oldest Profession, a story about five aging prostitutes, which will be directed by David Esbjornson; The Baltimore Waltz, Vogel’s OBIE-winning play about a woman and her brother searching for a cure to her mysterious illness, which will be directed by Mark Brokaw; and the New York premiere of Hot ‘N’ Throbbing, about a woman who writes erotic screenplays to support her family while trying to keep her estranged husband at bay, which will be directed by Les Waters.

It has also been announced that James Houghton, Signature’s artistic director, will be taking a one-year sabbatical; Kate Loewald, founding producer of The Play Company, will serve as guest artistic director next season. According to Houghton, “Paula Vogel is such a crucial voice in the American theater, willing to tackle so many important topics with her truly individual style. We are excited to present three of her wonderful plays in this season-long exploration of her work.”

Details about dates and casting for the Vogel plays will be announced shortly. For Signature Theatre Company subscription and ticket information, please call 212-244-7529.
