Roundabout Sets Its 2000-2001 Season
The season will kick off in grand style with Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s comedy,
The Man Who Came to Dinner, directed by four-time Tony award-winner Jerry Zaks and starring Tony winners Nathan Lane and Christine Baranski.
October 2000 will see Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms at the Roundabout. This riveting play about a rural family torn apart by hatred, lust, and greed will be directed by David Leveaux (The Real Thing).
Noel Coward’s Design For Living comes to the Roundabout in February 2001. This sophisticated comedy takes a trio of decadent artists on a scintillating romp through London, Paris, and New York in search of true love. Joe Mantello will direct.
June 2001 will be the month for Brian Friel’s The Faith Healer. In this moving play, the title character roves Scotland and Ireland with his wife and manager as they tell their tales of hardship, leaving the audience to determine what is truth and what is fiction.
Finally, sometime and somewhere in the Spring of 2001, the Roundabout will present one of the greatest musicals of all time, Stephen Sondheim & James Goldman’s Follies. This production will transport audiences to the once-spectacular but now crumbling Weissman Theatre where, on the eve of its demolition, ghosts from its glorious past return and showgirls from decades ago reunite-and remember-one last time. Acclaimed director Matthew Warchus () will helm this Broadway revival, the first since 1971.
