White first made his mark on Broadway theater with his costumes for George Abbott’s production of Best Foot Forward, and cemented his reputation with his designs for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! and Carousel. Other major Broadway credits include Bloomer Girl, High Button Shoes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Jamaica, Time Remembered, Take Me Along, Bye, Bye, Birdie, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Milk and Honey.

In addition to his theater work, White designed costumes for such films as There’s No Business Like Show Business and The Greatest Show on Earth. He also created designs for the ballets Fall River Legend, Fancy Free and Tristam, for the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, and for several television specials. In the course of his career, he received two Tony Awards, four Donaldson Awards, and three Academy Award nominations.

The March 20 memorial service will be followed immediately by a reception at Regents Restaurant, 317 East 53rd Street.
