Behind the Painting, a new musical written by the Tony-nominated songwriting team of Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire (Baby, Closer Than Ever), will receive two lab presentations, on February 27 and 28.

Adapted from the Thai musical of the same name and based on the novel by Sriburapha, Behind the Painting tells a tale of forbidden love set in Bangkok and Tokyo between 1933 and 1939. The story follows a young Thai student who falls in love with the wife of a Thai diplomat while the new democracy of Siam builds its increasingly anti-American sentiment.

The presentation will star Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid), Ruthie Ann Miles (Here Lies Love), Thom Sesma (Miss Saigon), and Bie Sukrit debuting in the role of Noppon. The cast also includes Aaron Albano, Ali Ewoldt, Rona Figueroa, Katie Lee Hill, Emily Hsu, Raymond Lee, Koh Machizuki, Colin Miyamoto, Paul Nakauchi, Manna Nichols, Autumn Ogawa, Catherine Ricafort, Vincent Rodriguez III, Andrew Sakaguchi, Scott Watanabe, and John Yi.

Tak Viravan directs, with choreography by Dan Knechtges.
