Rocky Postpones First Broadway Preview

The new Broadway musical Rocky, which was initially scheduled to begin previews this evening at the Winter Garden Theatre, has announced that the first performance will now take place on Thursday, February 13. Wednesday, February 12, has been rescheduled as a rehearsal day.
The change in the production's first preview date is the result of a reduction in the electrical voltage impacting certain midtown blocks east of Broadway beginning Thursday, February 6. According to the musical's representatives, Consolidated Edison, an energy company, reduced the power in response to salt and melting ice, which has caused damage to underground electrical cables. This power reduction delayed the production's technical rehearsals, which require the full electrical output normally provided to the Winter Garden Theatre. Ticketholders can exchange their tickets at the point of purchase for a future performance.
Featuring a score by the Tony-winning songwriting team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime) and a book by three-time Tony winner Thomas Meehan (The Producers), Rocky follows struggling Philly boxer Rocky Balboa, who gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to dethrone heavyweight champ Apollo Creed. Alex Timbers directs a cast starring Andy Karl (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) as Rocky, Terence Archie (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity) as Apollo Creed, Margo Seibert as Adrian, Dakin Matthews (All the Way) as Mickey, Danny Mastrogiorgio (Lucky Guy) as Paulie, and Jennifer Mudge (Into the Woods) as Gloria.
