Brian and Diane Sutherland Join the Public Theater's 2014 Spring Season

Tickets are now on sale for the Public Theater's 2014 spring season, which features a lineup of four productions.
The New York premiere of A Second Chance, featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Ted Shen and direction by Jonathan Butterell, begins performances on March 18 in advance of a March 30 opening and will run through April 13 in the Shiva Theater. Married couple Brian and Diane Sutherland will reprise the roles they debuted at Arlington, Virginia's Signature Theatre in 2011. The musical follows a recent widower and a divorcée who meet in midlife and struggle to free themselves from their painful pasts. Brian Sutherland's previous Broadway credits include 1776, Victor/Victoria, Steel Pier, Cats, Dance a Little Closer, and A Change in the Heir. Diane Sutherland has appeared in Broadway productions of Light in the Piazza, She Loves Me, 1776, Three Sisters, Cats, and A Chorus Line.
Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2, & 3), written by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks, also comes to the Public this March, running from March 14-22 in the Martinson Theater. The play traces the journey of a slave named Hero to illustrate "the mess of war, the cost of freedom, and the heartbreak of love." The cast will feature Cherise Boothe (Milk Like Sugar), Sterling K. Brown, Larry Bryggman (Harvey), Louis Cancelmi (Blasted), Kevin Carroll (Take Me Out), Arthur French (Dividing the Estate), Russell G. Jones, Jacob Ming-Trent (Hands on a Hardbody), Tonye Patano, and Julian Rozzell (Macbeth).
As previously announced, Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh (Behind the Candelabra) joins the season to direct Scott Z. Burns' world premiere drama The Library, featuring film actress Chloë Grace Moretz (Hugo). Performances begin March 25 in the Newman Theater in advance of an April 15 opening and will run through April 27.
The Great Immensity, written and directed by Steven Cosson with songs by Michael Friedman, will be the final production of the season. The "continent-hopping thriller" follows a woman named Phyllis searching for someone who disappeared from a tropical island while on an assignment for a nature show. Her pursuit leads her to uncover a mysterious plot surrounding the upcoming international climate summit in Auckland, New Zealand. The production takes a theatrical look at the enormous environmental challenges that face modern society and how to effect change in order to solve them. Performances begin April 11 in the Martinson Theater in advance of an April 24 opening and will run through May 1.
