Justin Vivian Bond is returning to the Joe's Pub stage as the one and only finalist in the Mx America pageant, for six solo performances between March 8 and March 30. For those not familiar with Bond's work, the transgender performer prefers the gender-inclusive honorific "Mx" in place of "Mr."/"Ms." and the pronoun "v" in place of "he"/"she." At the cabaret/pageant, v will be judged in a number of categories ranging from the traditional "presentation" to the not-so-traditional "mental health."
The show will incorporate spoken word, video, and original songs from Bond's records Dendrophile and Silver Wells. As a performer, Bond is committed to challenging gender binary and conformity and has been called "the greatest cabaret artist of [v's] generation" by the New Yorker. However, if you can't make it to the live show, take a look at v doing The Drunk News. Both informative and entertaining.
