The New Group's production of Jonathan Marc Sherman's new drama, Clive, held its opening night on Thursday, February 7 with a post-performance celebration at the West Bank Café. Directed by and starring Tony nominee Ethan Hawke (The Coast of Utopia), the work runs at Theater Row's Acorn Theatre through March 9.
Inspired by Bertolt Brecht's play, Baal, Clive is set in 1990's New York City and follows a self-destructive rock singer on a downward spiral. Joining Hawke and Sherman in the cast are Tony Award nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Present Laughter), Drama Desk Award nominee Zoe Kazan (The Seagull), Vincent D'Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Stephanie Janssen (Ivanov), Mahira Kakkar (Harper Regan), Aaron Krohn (The Glass Cage), and Dana Lyn (Hamlet). The production also features live music, performed by GAINES.
Guests at the opening included Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo (The Kids are All Right), Natasha Lyonne (American Pie), Chloë Sevigny (Big Love), Josh Hamilton (Dead Accounts), Alessandro Nivola (A Lie of the Mind), Darren Goldstein (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Mark Blum (Gore Vidal's The Best Man), Francine Volpe (The Good Mother), Eric Nelsen (The Good Mother), and Tony Lo Bianco (The Little Flower).
