The Moth Among Recipients of MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions

The Moth, a New York City-based not-for-profit dedicated to the art of storytelling, is among the recipients of the MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions. The awards go to institutions that address some of the world’s most pressing problems in creative ways.

The organization will receive $750,000, which it plans to use to preserve its 15-year video and audio archive, as well as to create a cash reserve for the organization, and to expand the growth of The Moth Radio Hour, which will begin weekly airings in January 2013.

Additional MacArthur recipients include Albertine Rift Conservation Society, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, Carnegie Moscow Center, Center for Investigative Reporting, Center for Responsible Lending, Community Investment Corporation, Conservation Strategy Fund, Crisis Action, Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University, Girls’ Power Initiative, International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, Moscow Helsinki Group, National Juvenile Defender Center, and Red Nacional de Derechos Humanos “Todos los Derechos para Todos” (Red TDT) (National Human Rights Network “All Rights for All”).
