Matilda the Musical to Begin Broadway Run in Early 2013

The Royal Shakespeare Company will open its production of Matilda The Musical on Broadway in early 2013. Casting, a theater, and specific dates will be announced in the near future.

Directed by Matthew Warchus and featuring a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the show centers on a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her parents but impresses her schoolteacher and, over the course of her first term at school, teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other’s lives.

The production, which premiered at The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, home of the RSC, and is now playing its West End engagement at the Cambridge Theatre, is designed by Rob Howell, and has choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker and special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.
